HERRINGTHORPE INFANT SCHOOL

AUTUMN NEWSLETTER 1 2006-2007

Welcome to the first newsletter of the Academic Year 2006—2007 – we can’t believe that we are at the half-term point already!  This school year promises to be yet another busy and exciting year in school and we are already enjoying working in close partnership with you.

IMFORMATION EVENINGS

Tonight we have the last of our “Welcome” meetings – a Language Presentation for Full-time Foundation Stage parents.  You may remember from last year that we changed the format of Parents’ Evenings for the Autumn term, believing that it would be more helpful to share expectations for the year group with you all together, rather than have individual interviews so quickly after the Summer Term ones.  Thank you to those of you who attended – your feedback was that the evenings                                        were very helpful indeed.

BOOK SHOP

The new arrangements for Book Shop are working very well.  As you know each class visits the shop on a Tuesday morning with the opportunity to buy super books at reduced prices.  This forms part of our priority to raise reading standards in school – thank you for supporting us.

EVENTS IN SCHOOL

As part of our education on Global Awareness we are sponsoring a child in Ethiopia to access life’s essentials like safe clean water, healthcare, nutritious food and education.  Her name is Fentanesh and she is 6 years old.  To start us off with this we are using the collection from our Harvest Festivals - £110.45 already from the KS1 Celebration.  Thank you.  We will let you know when we hear from Fentanesh and we will keep you informed about her progress.

Thank you too for supporting the World’s Biggest Coffee morning.  A superb £122.24 was raised which has already been sent to the Macmillan Nurses.

HEALTHY SCHOOLS FRUIT AND MILK TUCK SHOP

As we are approaching the end of this half-term it would be most helpful if we had an idea as to how many children will be having fruit & milk or just milk next term.

The cost from week beginning the 31 October 2006 until the 20 December 2006 will be:

                            Fruit & Milk       £7.40

                            Milk Only           £4.44

There will be a list in your child’s class for you to tick and indicate whether or not you would like your child to continue having milk & fruit or milk only.  Payment will be due on Tuesday 31 October 2006.

Thank you for your co-operation on this matter.

PLEASE NOTE:

We close for the half-term break on Friday 20 October 2006 and RE-OPEN on TUESDAY 31 OCTOBER 2006.  (Monday is a staff training day)
