Year 2

In the Autumn Term our centre of interest is 'Our Local Area'. Throughout this time we will be going on lots of walks in our local area looking at the positives and negatives and what we can do to help us to be proud of where we live.  Throughout this learning process we hope to be able to recognise the main similarities and differences between our local area and the contrasting place. Later on in this half term we will move on to plants and animals in our local area. we will look at the lifecycles of animals and investigate ways in which we can protect our local wildlife. In the second half of the term we will focus on the 'Victorians' with a visit to Canon Hall. One day during the term our school will be transformed into a strict victorian school, with strict regimes and victorian lessons. As our design project we will design and make a Victorian carriage.

In the Spring Term our learning will be around 'Old Toys' and 'The Olympics'. We will organise and run a toy museum and find out information about toys in the past. we are going to find out about many Olympic events and participate in some of them. Our design project this term will be to design and make a sports jacket for a teddy bear to wear. We will find out about some of the inspiring athletes participating in the bejing Olympics.

In the Summer Term our learning will be based on the 'Construction' as our new build begins to take shape. we are hoping to have meetings with the builders to find out more about their jobs and how they are going to build our new school. Our science work will be about grouping and changing materials, electricity and forces and movement. As our design project we will be planning, making and evaluating diggers with a winding mechanism.
